Flu Strain in Mexico

Saw it on yesterday's news and read the following on channelnewsasia webby:

Swine Flu

Mexican officials said the death toll from the new strain had probably risen to 81, while at least 10 people were believed infected in the United States, two in France and one in Israel.

The WHO warned on Saturday that the virus had the potential to become a pandemic, labelling the current outbreak "a public health emergency of international concern."

Just take precaution!

My FIRST!

Cannot hide the excited fact that I had actually managed to catch a prawn while prawn fishing at Marina Country Club yesterday ~gleeing~ Had never done prawn fishing for sometime and this is the FIRST time I caught a prawn! Yippie!!!

It tasted fresh (love to make salad with it) but I felt uneasy when I deshell the prawns with eggs. 6 out of 15 at least, are preggy prawns...

Its a 3-hour patience training session especially when Charlotte is around.

Oh yah, one of the staffs there said that I am too impatient to catch any but I proved him wrong :D --- one prawn is good enough to prove him wrong --- he is a very kind person though he refuse to help me fish, he gave us a tiny net... hahaha Lyn caught 2 tiger prawns with it!

We paid $90 for 3 rods. Worthwhile?

Subway Dinner

Yesterday we packed Subway's sandwiches for dinner at Far East Plaza...

Me: Why are you scrubbing the ceiling now?
Staff 1: ~ Shooing his colleague to stop the scrubbing ~
Staff 2 a.k.a Ceiling Scrubber: Mam, do you want us to change your sandwich?

Me: Its ok. But if you continue to scrub the ceiling our sandwiches will be contaminated (there is a couple in front of me)
Staff 1: ~ Continuing to pack my sandwich~ All vege for you mam?

Then while I was paying, staff 2 continue with his scrubbing...

I went off without saying anything else.

Moral:

They should know that they are not suppose to scrub the ceiling while there is food at the counter. Though the food are covered up, there are other things like knife and chopping board that are exposed to the atmosphere.

I had alerted them once but they continue scrubbing after my sandwich was packed.

What kind of food handling is this?

My long weekend of Charlotte

I am blessed to have a nice hubby who helps me to take care of Charlotte while I was attending Michelles' Hens Night on Good Friday.

He takes care of Charlotte, washes the clothes, iron the clothes, mop & sweep the floor.

What else can I ask for...?

Ivan bought a $3.90 Strawberry Shortcake watch for Charlotte
This little gesture from him is really sweet

This is how vain Charlotte is...
She insisted to wear the "giraffe shoes" with the peko socks!

~ Charlotte's playroom ~

Left: Charlotte was pointing finger and saying, "NO ah".
Right: Its messing up time!

Charlotte has musical skills...

She shouts, "Daddy, Mummy, neh neh (malay word for grandma), ah tor (malay word for grandpa), kaka (malay word for sister), por por (grandma in hokkien), gong gong (grandpa in hokkien).......

Charlotte calls Ivan "Dear Dear" as well. She copied that while I was calling out to Ivan.

Charlotte loves bubbles!

My balcony will be very soapy afterwards...

Michelle's Hens Night ~ 10 April 2009

SEE our original plan...

But few things were changed
no blow job *on the bear ~ dun think naughty cos we're very tame!!!*, no french kiss...

~ Orchard Parksuites ~

Though the sofa and chair combination looks ah neh... overall it felt cosy

  • Dicky key chain with our names on it
  • Cute hair pins with ribbons and flower
  • Pick-up dicks a.k.a stirrers
  • Dicky paper plates
  • Straws with dick
  • Nice nice napkins
  • 10,000 carats diamond ring for the winner of the game

HELLO..... ~ITS ME! & LAO DA~

  • Dicky wand
  • Dicky balloons

ERM, someone... shouldn't this be called Dicky Party?

pssst: - the g-string, we drew IT!

OOpSss...
Ken you are asking me what we will be doing that night right?
SEE MICHELLE!!!

Title: Catch me in bed with another guy!

Getting ready to go on date with Mr Bloom

LOOK at LAO DA's cunning look...

By now The Hen should know WHO is the Mastermind,

the MISTRESS OF ALL EVIL & mechanical pencils!

~ In Orchard Road ~

Hen:
Today is my Hens Night and I need you to introduce to you my boyfriend, Mr Bloom... I have task to complete. Can BOTH of you guys kiss me?

Ang Mohs:

No problem!!!

Is this Singapore size? (after the photography)

erm... the guys should answer that cos I've only seen one!

This guy in the photo is very sporting!

We wanted him to dance with the Hen & Mr Bloom and he did!

I'll upload the video of him dancing...

We were all exhausted after walking and went Starbucks to rest...

AND there we thought of 2 ideas! DING DING!!!

1) Go to the counter and tell the cashier that Mr Bloom is thirsty and needs a FREE drink

2) Introduce Mr Bloom to 20 men and shake hands

We thought that this challenge is tough as the manager of the shop seems to be in a bad mood...

Nontheless, we succeed!

The Hen managed to get her boyfriend a FREE ice-cream!

This challenge...

The Hen was suppose look for a guy and make him kneel and shout to her,

"I LOVE YOU! Will you marry me?"

The French guy was apparently a tourist and cannot speak very good English AND did not kneel BUT... we are good people, we let Michelle off...

LAST challenge ~ Michelle shouted, "I LOVE YOU" and gave Mr Bloom a KISS right in the middle of the exit of Orchard MRT...

Was shocked to see many onlookers who gathered around us!

*Some took photos and videos too

Most importantly, the stripper (from 2niteok) was a huge disappointment!

But it was an overall GREAT Hens Night!

Relaxation Techniques for Tots who are too Hyperactive

Sometimes, a bundle of energy can become so overwound that constructive channelling is no longer possible. When this happens, it's best to begin the unwinding process promptly. Try relaxing your toddler woth any of these soothing techniques: -
  1. Hugging, cuddling or massage
  2. Soft music, with or without lyrics
  3. A relaxing story
  4. A warm bath (with adult supervision)
  5. A whirlpool bath (with adult supervision & do not use hot tub - dangerous for young children)
  6. Playing simple puzzles
  7. Doodling, painting with a brush or fingers, drawing with crayons or chalk
  8. Clay play
  9. Baking or cooking (with adult supervision)
  10. Water play
  11. Watching fish in fishtank
  12. Petting a gentle pet or a stuffed animal
  13. Interaction with a calm parent or nanny
Once your child has calmed down, try to determine any underlying cause for the wild behaviour and see if you can a way to deal with it and prevent a repeat.

Charlotte's First Movie Experience

Charlotte had her first movie experience yesterday at Suntec - Eng Wah Cinema, watching 12 Rounds.

Phew... Everything went fine!

No crying, shouting or screaming... Maybe cos we picked the right timing... 9.20p.m. She is usually fast asleep at this time.

She was busily helping herself to the sweet & salted popcorn and fell asleep a while later even though there many bombing scenes in the movie. Heehee... Does it mean that we can frequent cinema? :D

How many more of these kind of lousy week?

Work has been hell for me this whole week...

Sometime ago I stepped onto the toes of someone in the office. I was provoked as he poked his nose into affairs that does not concern him. Harp onto things that are non of his concern and make nasty accusations at contractors which indirectly meant that I am not doing my job!

Is it common in big companies? The taichi thingy?

Well my team only consists of 8 persons and its so freaking political already! Everyday you need to play taichi and if you are weak, you have more work to do. Its that simple and unfair.

Everytime after each ordeal, I tried to be nicer to the person and cover my ass in whatever things I do but whatever I do seems useless... He will dig up history and make a big hoo-ha and worst of all, another one went in-sync, blaming the contractors without checking on facts first.

Gosh!!! I need mechanical pencils!!!

Anyway, I am going to Sentosa to help Shirlene out in her wedding shoot later as she does not have any helper...

Hope that everything goes on smoothly...

Constipated Yesterday, 2 April 2009

Charlotte constipated yesterday...

I was worried sick *I am surprised at how calm Ivan can be in situations like this* when we rushed to Nanny's place to fetch her but I'm glad that all's ok now :) we fed her fruit tree apple juice with aloe vera bits and a little while later when we reached home, she poo-ed in the potty.

Sometimes I blame myself for not being able to be with Charlotte when things like this happens... I'm sure that all working mothers feel the same way right? We love our child more than ourselves and nothing else matters anymore... nothing else other than your sweet little baby.

After Charlotte poo-ed, we rushed to V8 Cafe to meet the gers. I was surprised to saw their friends around as I had specially arranged the meeting for us to help/talk things through with her. It was inconvenient to have others around unless she does not mind to have a heart-to-heart in everyone's presence. Anyway, if I knew that there were others around, I would have rest at home, especially after all the drama...

Ivan's really sweet...

He suggested that if Charlotte does not get well, he would meet the gers on my behalf so that I would not be so worried for her and Charlotte :) I knew I married the right guy yah ;)

Anyway, the important thing is, Charlotte enjoyed herself...

Auntie Lyn feeding Charlotte icecream from her root beer float

Look at the mess...

After a while you learn to live with her messy way of eating

Charlotte: Its too noisy!

Everything's worthwhile when she smiles :)

Terrible Twos - Taming Tantrums

At 19 months, Charlotte has begin to throw tantrums when she does not get things she wants or the way she wants it.

That day, she pushed all her toys onto the floor when she got fustrated while playing.

(Come to think of it, she might be tired after walking Kozer in the park but it is only around 6p.m. and we are preparing to go out for dinner)

And as usual, my 'short-fused' temper came in.

I told her off immediately and exert physical punishment (beat her on her palms). It got worse and she complaint to Ivan

(crying..."Daddy"..."Mummy"....crying - I knew she was saying "Daddy, Mummy beat me")

Ivan spent some time coaxing her... Then she fall asleep while watching Barney.

After reading, I think of sharing on the ways to tame tantrums so you will not make same mistakes like me...

1) Encourage better outlets of fustrations

Most kids at this age have difficulties in communication.
When they cannot get across what they want to you, they throw tantrums.
Help them by asking, "You look angry... Is it because you are hungry?"

2) Regular routine minimizes tantrums
(guess Charlotte was exhausted that day)
Regular meals, naps, bedtime and bath helps.

3) Carry nutritious snacks whenever you go and don't wait until behaviour gets out of hand to offer them

4) Reduce the need to say "No"
(We always says "No" to her)
Avoid setting too many rules.

5) When possible, say "Yes"
Try negotiating
E.g. "You can't skip your bath , but you can finish looking at that book before you go in".

6) Don't use "Maybe"
Toddlers will take it as a yes!

7) Don't overcontrol
This leads to rebellion.
Exert control only when absolutely necessary.

8) Provide choices when possible
It helps your toddler to feel more in control, reducing potential for tantrums.
E.g. "Do you want to wear the pink colored shirt or the white colored shirt?"

Avoided open ended questions.
E.g. "Which shirt do you want to wear?"

Make it clear that some issues are non-negotiable
E.g. wearing seat belt

9) Stick to principles when tantrum occurs
(Ivan always give in)
E.g. give in to buy that chocolate bar she wants
This will lead to setting the stage for next tantrum

10) Commend good behaviour

11) Try to be a model of calm
(Its not easy for me... But I am trying)
Parents provide excellent example for children

12) Do not use physical punishment
(Ok... I will!)

13) Don't try to reason or argue with your toddler during a tantrum
(yah... it don't help)
Out-of-control toddlers are simply beyond reason

14) Express empathy
When you toddler is carrying on something he or she can't have,
say "I know its hard when you don't get what you want.
Sometimes I get angry when I can't get what I want".

15) Try distraction

16) Ignore the tantrum

After the tanrum,
offer a praise if your child manages to end it quickly.
Don't rehash the episode or lectureyour child about it or insist for apology and don't administer punishment.
